We about to start a riot!
Cause we wanna be free
Yep, I wanna be free
But, you won’t let me be free
So we riot!
Anything we want
We gone’ have to take it
So that’s how it’s gonna be
We about to start a riot!
Cause we fed up, the set up won’t let up
Won’t you let me be free?
We about to start a riot!
Yeah, We about to start a riot!
We about to start a riot!

Verse 1: @Grand.Supreme.Chapin

April 29th
The people became fed up
The city went up in flames
Four days it didn’t let up
Tension grew thick
Awaiting the verdict
Four white officers
Acquitted of hatred
The media took notice
Reported the incidents
South Central was the focus
They blamed its residents
LA burned down
My community surrounded
And the stupid politicians
Acted dumbfounded
Claimed to be oblivious
About police brutality
But cops abusing power
Was an everyday reality
An issue that was often
Swept under the rug
And said excessive force
Was needed to handle thugs
Riots in the streets
Law & order put to the test
Uncle Sam’s worst nightmare
A civil unrest
Sublime already told ya
But not the full picture
Rodney King on the ground
Getting Devo’d stayed wit’ ya!

Verse 1: @Grand.Supreme.Chapin
April 29th
The people just set it off
At first, cried for justice
Tears became Molotov
Started using fists
Said “fuck begging for help”
Became fed up and pissed
The city turned to hell
Shit was off the hook
Off the hinges
Off the latch
Not a peaceful demonstration
Muthafucka strike a match
The cops stood and watched
While the businesses got looted
Had the power to protect them
But they just didn’t do it
I blame Darryl Gates… and…
Mayor Tom Bradley
You knew this coming… so…
Why you mad at me?
All events leading up
Were within your purview
And…. all you could do
Was set in a curfew
My neighborhood was trapped
With no water in the tap
The lights cut off
In the dark like a rat
I was locked in my apartment
Lighting candles. Said a prayer
And Florence/Normandie
Was the albino alligator

Verse 3: @Grand.Supreme.Chapin
April 29th
Everything was televised
The riots in LA claimed fifty-five lives
But all they seem to focus on
Was one white trucker
While the violence on the streets
Kept spreading like Smucker’s
The people were familiar
And saw it all coming
When justice ain’t a pillar
It’s a matter of timing
Conditions were ripe
And tired of the abuse
But even more, fed up
With your goddamn excuse
The government controls you
As long as you listen
To lies and promises
Why do they wanna build a prison?
Poverty is genocide
Not coincidence
Check the unemployment rate
And the murder incidence
The tyrant’s in power
If the army respond
And people give in
On the wrong side of the gun
We will not retreat
Until our freedom is won
Riots speak frustration for the people…. I’m done!
